Annemarie Garlin

Principal and Educator


Annemarie Garlin has twenty years of California State teaching experience ranging from Kindergarten to Adult Education. She designed programs for students with special needs, those assigned to accelerated programs, and those placed in English as a second language classes. She is experienced in high school academic counseling, regional vocational education program administration, and 15 years working in K-12 site administration and ending her career as a consultant to the Orange County Department of Education. She worked with principals of low performing schools to design, implement and monitor student remediation programs. Designed and implemented countywide, specific training to increase the teaching skills of instructional assistants so that they can be more effective in the classroom. She has many years of academic leadership in writing curriculum, monitoring student progress, piloting instructional materials, evaluating programs, designing implementation schedules, and aligning district assessments to State Standards and the required Federally mandated growth targets for groups and individuals. Mrs. Garlin is currently retired and divides her time between Dallas and Coeur D' Alene, Idaho with her husband, Blake.


Patty Hurtt

Director of Alternative Programs


Patty Hurtt graduated with a B.S. from UCSD and received a Masters of Education from Chapman University. She started her career in education as a Math teacher for San Diego Unified School District's Hoover High School and Kearny High School. During this tenure, she developed a true passion for working with "at-promise students". This work continued to guide her professional career as she moved to Poway Unified School District as a math teacher and an instructional leader. After 15 years of teaching, she joined her school's administration team to institute systemic change focused on closing the achievement gap among students. Currently, she is the Director of Alternative Programs for Poway Unified School district. She oversees home school and independent study as well as home hospital instructions and online learning. Her philosophy continues to ensure that all students have equal access to knowledge and success.


Audrey Shaw

Teacher and Music Educator


Audrey Shaw has over 40 years of experience in education. She holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. She spent 10 years teaching in the Wheeling School District in Illinois and 5 years teaching at St. James, a private school in California. In addition to academic teaching, Audrey has been teaching piano to students for over 40 years. Audrey has 7 grown children and understands students’ needs from the perspective of a parent as well as an educator.
